Hypericon 8 News

There will be no Hypericon in 2012 but we will come back better and stronger in 2013. Our first seven years have been amazing and we look forward to our next seven, seventeen, even seventy years.

The planning for this year’s event, however, has presented us with a few challenges. Poor economy, hotel issues and a massive flood have led to some setbacks. After some discussion among the staff, we have decided to make some changes. One of those changes involve not hosting Hypericon in 2012.

We are not dead. We are not quitting. We are not giving up. We’re not even taking a break.

Part of our problem is that we inadvertently scheduled Hypericon 8 on the same weekend as DeepSouthCon. This year’s DSC is a very special event because it is the 50th anniversary of the DSC and it is being held in Huntsville, AL, the location of the very first Deepsouthcon. We know that many fans will want to go to DSC instead of Hypericon because we feel the same way! Therefore, we will be making the following announcements:

  1. As we explained, we are skipping Hypericon this year. We will gladly refund your money if you’ve preregistered or will carry your registration over to next year.
  2. We plan to throw a HUGE party at DeepSouthCon 50 in Huntsville.
  3. We are planning a separate gaming event at another time this year. This may be a one day or full weekend event. If all goes well this may become a second annual event.
  4. We are currently making plans for both 2013 and 2014.We already have guests in mind and hope to promote both of these as soon as possible.

Thanks again to all of you and we hope you will join us in our other endeavors. Stay tuned for more updates soon.
